SPENCE DOMINANT IN IBF 147 TITLE DEFENSE OVER GARCIA

International Boxing Federation welterweight champion Errol Spence dominated challenger Mikey Garcia in a successful defense of the IBF title in front of 47, 525 fans at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on March 16, 2019. 

Spence, (25-0, 21KO) was consistently the more productive boxer throughout the contest.  The Texas native fought behind an educated jab and being the larger of the two fighters, was able to utilize his advantages in size and power against Garcia.  Spence out jabbed Garcia 108-21 and out power punched the Moreno Valley, California resident 237-54 according to CompuBox statistics. 

The end result was unanimous at the scores of 120-108 twice and 120-107 for Spence. 

Hailing from Desoto, Texas, Spence made the fourth defense of the IBF 147 pound title and has held the championship since his knockout win over Kell Brook in May 2017.  Spence defended the belt twice in 2018 with wins over Lamont Peterson and Carlos O’campo. 

The decision win over Garcia (39-1, 30KO), who moved up in weight divisions after winning IBF titles at lightweight and super lightweight in 2018, is Spence’s first title defense of 2019.
