Rising prospect Devin Haney won the vacant North American IBF lightweight title with a dominant 10 round win over veteran Juan Carlos Burgos in Temecula, California on September 28, 2018 in the main event of a Showtime televised fight card.
Haney, (20-0, 13KO) gauged his timing and distance early against Burgos and as the fight progressed, the Las Vegas resident began to show flashes of brilliance with effective counter punching, punch dodging defense and solid offensive aggression in what earned him a unanimous decision win by the scores of 100-90 and 97-93 as well as the IBF title.
"Burgos is a crafty veteran with a lot of heart but tonight I showed the world why I'm the next super star in boxing," said Haney, who also promoted his first fight with Haney Promotions. "I'm ready to take on all the champions in the lightweight division.”
In Haney’s last fight on May 11, 2018, the 19 year old impressively stopped Mason Menard inside nine rounds for the USBA lightweight title.
