BRAEKHUS, SHIELDS DEFEND IBF WOMEN’S TITLES

December 11, 2018

On December 8, 2018 International Boxing Federation welterweight champion Cecilia Braekhus won a unanimous decision over challenger Aleksandra Magdziak Lopes in the main event of HBO’s last televised fight card at the Stub Hub Center in Carson, California.

Braekhus, (35-0, 9KO) born in Colombia and raised in Norway, defended the IBF title three times this year and nine times overall since winning the championship belt in September 2014.  Braekhus is currently the only undisputed champion in boxing.

On the undercard, Michigan’s Claressa Shields successfully defended the International Boxing Federation middleweight title against Femke Hermans.  Shields won via unanimous decision.

Shields, (8-0, 2KO) has held both the IBF’s middleweight and super middleweight titles, and has held an IBF title since August 2017, when she won the vacant super middleweight belt in only her fourth professional fight.  Shields is a two-time gold medal Olympic champion.
